The Models' View
This is to provide some context on the major issues raised in the Open Letter, and to provide more information on how the Suggested Pay Scale was composed by life models with input from employers.
Of foremost concern is to have the profession of life modelling recognised fully for the specialist, artistic and performative skills it demands.
Life models may be silent when we work, but that does not mean we don't have a voice.
Any responsible employer will be interested in equitable pay for their life models, and so this campaign aims to bring life models to the negotiating table. There are many examples of best practice and hosts and employers who pay well above the recommended rate.
We place an emphasis on remuneration for photography and videography because these too are where the work, and image, of the life model should be valued. As life models, our image is all we have and so should not be taken for granted.
